Pros and Cons of Facebook

Facebook is the largest social networking site today. Founded in February 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg. At the beginning, the site was a social network only for students in Harvard College. Then two months later, Facebook membership began to spread more widely to other colleges in the Boston area. Some colleges are already using Facebook at the time was Boston University, MIT, and Tufts.

Currently, Mark Zukeberg creation has emerged as a social networking site at the greatest use throughout the world. It is accessed by billions of people every day and is used for various purposes. This social networking is considered good for education, but others consider it bad.

It is good for educating children in Indonesia because it can be a means or medium for conveying learning in various fields. A teacher who has a Facebook enabled them to disseminate educational information that is useful to the students. Then, a chat facility provided by Facebook is also becoming an important tool for students to chat in a more comfortable to ask and answer questions about homework, and other educational issues. This social media, helps communication so it can be done quickly and easily.

A teacher can also use Facebook. The teachers can be more familiar with their students because the interaction can be easily done through Facebook whenever and wherever they are. It is certainly more profitable for the learning process which is also determined by how well the interaction and communication between teachers and their students. When communications are good, then the study is believed to be much more successful than who make themselves to be exclusive from the students’ area. Aside from being a means of communication between students to students and students to teachers, this site is also a medium for writers that exist around the world to deliver their educational materials for each child. We currently see many articles and fan page which are quite instructive, and can then be used as learning material for students who become the users of Facebook. One useful fan page is the Easy Way to Learn English, where the owner of the fan page regularly shares the learning materials of English.

Meanwhile, Facebook can turn into a bad media because at this time, many found the sharing of the content that should not be viewed by children. Many people have poor mental and then distribute content that does not educate the Facebook users which mostly are teenagers and children. Furthermore, this social media site does not have a filter to content. So the effect is that many students who copy or imitate the bad behavior that acquired via Facebook. In addition to be a medium of information that is not good, Facebook is also making the students are oblivious to their daily obligations. This is a social networking site that has the most complete information and entertainment. One of entertainment that wastes the time of a student is gaming. There are a variety of games on Facebook and online-based. In fact, there are even more devastating damage caused by the Facebook game where students buy gaming products which of course spend much money of their parents.

An issue of course has pros and cons. In response to Facebook, we have to use this site as wise as possible. Because Facebook is a site that does not have a filter against bad content, then we should use it as best as possible by avoiding the various bad content. Then, as parents and teachers, we must always keep an eye on our children, so they can avoid the dangers of this biggest social media site in the world
